The Rio Marié Project, the largest community-based sport fishing project in Brazil.

During May 27th and May 29th, Rodrigo Salles (Untamed Angling Brazil CEO), the Federation of Indigenous Organizations of Rio Negro (FOIRN), and indigenous leaders met with partners in the Arurá community, located on the middle Rio Negro, to discuss and evaluate the Rio Marié Project in the annual board meeting.

The FIORN together with the 14 native communities of Rio Marié held the meeting of the community-based tourism management committee and counted on the presence of the partner, Instituto Socioambiental, for technical support and advice on the activity.

The purpose of the meeting was to present, in a transparent manner, the accountability of FIORN, the association, the communities and Untamed Angling Brazil regarding the amounts received during the 2022/2023 season.

As all our clients know, the Rio Marié Project is the first community-based project in indigenous territories that generated the most economic resources and became the largest community-based sport fishing project in Brazil. The project reported that the 2022/2023 season (September 2022 to February 2023) was the best since 2014, despite the difficulties faced during the global pandemic.

A new work plan was proposed, including the creation of the first model school for native fishing guides in Brazil, fly tying workshops for the women in the communities, and improvement of the surveillance plan for communities.
