Fishing Summary
In the world of fly fishing, certain truths remain constant: the thrill of the chase, the bond between anglers, and the tales we carry back with us. This week, as we kicked off our 10th season on the legendary Rio Marié, those certainties were reaffirmed in ways that reminded us why these waters are revered as the ultimate destination for trophy peacock bass—where the world’s largest specimens roam, and where every cast holds the promise of a true giant.
With 12 eager anglers from the USA joining us, the first week of 2024 was nothing short of remarkable. Low, well-rested waters greeted our crew—a fly fisher’s dream, really. And the results? Let’s just say no one went home empty-handed. Each angler found themselves locked in battles with the formidable peacock bass that these waters are famous for, walking away with more than just memories—they took home stories etched in the wild rhythms of the Amazon.

Highlights of the Week
Casey’s Moment:
You know that feeling when you’re the last one standing, watching as everyone else nails their big catch? That was Casey for four days. While the rest of the group celebrated their victories, Casey was still chasing his. Then, on day five, things took a turn. Guided by Rafael, a man who knows these waters like the back of his hand, Casey set out with renewed determination.
Rafael spotted a promising nest, and Casey, following his lead, made the perfect cast. The line tightened, the rod bent, and the battle began. It wasn’t easy—throw in a pesky reel knot and you’ve got the makings of a true test of patience. But when that fish finally surfaced, it measured a stunning 89 cm!! The biggest catch of the week, and a moment that made every hour of effort worth it. Well done, Casey.
Looking Ahead
As we wrap up this first week, the excitement for what lies ahead is palpable. The Rio Marié has revealed just a hint of its potential, and if this week is any indication, we’re in for a season that will be nothing short of extraordinary. These waters are not for everyone, but for those who seek the ultimate fly-fishing experience, the Rio Marié offers a challenge and reward like no other.
