In the world of sportfishing, some records are serendipitous, while others are the result of the extraordinary efforts of anglers and guides. The distinction becomes clear when we observe four consecutive IGFA all-length world records for peacock bass, showcasing something genuinely special.
Rio Marié has consistently demonstrated this unique quality every season.
Since its inception in 2014, we've recorded 15 IGFA world records, with the latest achievement being nothing short of remarkable. Brent Van Niekerk has set a new benchmark in the annals of peacock bass fishing. Surpassing our previous records at Rio Marié of 92cm and 91cm, Brent's catch is a testament to both skill and perseverance.
What makes this story even more extraordinary is that this was Brent's first peacock bass fishing trip. Guided by our experienced team members, Alonso and Graciney, Brent's record-setting 94-centimeter monster peacock bass was one of his first catches of the week, on September 7, 2023.
This remarkable feat not only tops the previous record by two centimeters but also ends a seven-way tie that has stood for nearly three years. We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Brent on this incredible catch and setting a new IGFA All-Tackle Length World Record for the species. Rio Marié, also known as the Rio de Gigantes, solidifies its status as the River of Records. Join us in celebrating this monumental achievement in the world of angling.
