The International Game Fish Association (IGFA) announced that Rodrigo Salles landed another all-tackle world record peacock bass on fly gear!
On September 4, 2021, Rodrigo M. Salles was fly fishing the Rio Marié, Brazil, when he landed a 91 centimeter speckled peacock bass. With this fish, Rodrigo tied the IGFA All-Tackle Length World Record for the species.
On August 25th, 2022, also on the Rio Marié, Rodrigo was fly fishing with his wife and Rio Marié head guide, Rafael Marques. On his very first cast of the day, he hooked a very strong fish. Salles was fishing with a 9wt rod and after several minutes, landed a massive 25.3 lbs. and 92 cm. giant peacock bass. This fish was massive, and turned out to be the new all-tackle length world record.
This is the second all-tackle world record landed on fly gear, raising the bar for this species. “We can land monster peacock bass on fly. It’s a war waged and all anglers should experience that!” Rodrigo said.
When IGFA sent us this note a few days ago, I was still feeling the thrill of just welcoming my new baby, Laura, to this world.
I’m amazed to have the kind of luck to land giant peacock bass on the Rio Marié, and this is proof that anglers can land world record peacock bass on fly. Roughly one year after landing the new IGFA world record peacock bass in all length with 91 cm. in early September 2021, I got this amazing 92 cm. and 25.3 lbs. fish.
It was just another beautiful day on the Rio Marié, and on my very first cast of the day I got my fly stuck on a monster. We were in the right place, at the right time, and the fish were hungry and happy. Because failure is not an option, my gear is tested, rigged, and ready for battle against these monsters.
My @scientificanglers leaders and fly lines were proven again to hold another record fish. With the help of my @thomasandthomas Exocett 350 SS, these monster fish were on the losing end of the classic tug of war - jungle style.
